Indore — In a riveting twist to the Pearson hotel honeymoon murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, new evidence suggests his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, meticulously planned to vanish—not with alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, but with an unidentified third individual. According to investigators, she had covertly purchased or rented a flat in Indore to use as a hideout after the crime (m.economictimes.com).

After Raja was brutally murdered near Shillong’s Wei Sawdong Falls on May 23, Sonam quietly slipped into Indore. She remained in a semi-furnished flat in the Dewas Naka–Gandhi Bagh area—purchased under false names and possibly without Raj’s knowledge—from May 25/26 to June 7, before being traced and arrested in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh (en.wikipedia.org).

Police allege that Sonam destroyed her own phones after the murder, then purchased three new handsets—one feature phone and two Android devices—using fake IDs. Raj Kushwaha allegedly facilitated the buys. This coordinated digital disappearance culminated when Sonam briefly activated a phone at a remote highway dhaba in Ghazipur on June 9. The device ping generated a tip-off that undone her intricate plan (m.economictimes.com).

Originally believed to have orchestrated the homicide, Raj now appears to have been manipulated by Sonam, acting as a pawn rather than the plot’s architect. Detectives suggest Sonam promised love and money to Raj and others, using them as unknowing instruments in extracting Raja’s life. The discovery of her true objective—a third person—has magnified the complexity of the crime (m.economictimes.com).

Indore’s Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya confirmed that the flat (identified as G‑1) was leased under Raj Kushwaha and Vishal Chouhan’s names on May 30. The landlord, Silom James, insists he was unaware of Sonam’s presence and has handed over lease records to authorities. The building, owned by Lokendra Singh Tomar, remains under forensic scrutiny, with pieces of furniture in place and CCTV partly installed (timesofindia.indiatimes.com).

Family dynamics are equally strained. Govind Raghuvanshi, Sonam’s brother, has publicly disowned her, extended apologies to Raja’s family, denied any romantic liaison between Sonam and Raj, and described Raj as nothing more than a loyal employee (en.wikipedia.org).

Meanwhile, Assam’s Meghalaya Police, constructing a crime-scene reconstruction around Wei Sawdong Falls, revealed an even darker subplot: Sonam and Raj had plotted to fake her death using a burned female corpse to aid their escape (en.wikipedia.org).

With Sonam, Raj, and three other accomplices in custody, investigations now focus on digitally retracing phone records, examining the financial trail of the flat, and identifying the third person at the heart of Sonam’s plan. Narco-analysis requests are looming, supported by Raja’s family, as forensic experts comb CCTV footage and phone logs (economictimes.indiatimes.com).

🔎 What’s Next in the Investigation

Investigators will delve into the following:

  • The identity of the mysterious “third man” and his connection to Sonam
  • Forensic analysis of the Indore flat, including financial and digital records
  • Digital footprints left by Sonam’s new phones and SIM cards
  • Legal avenues, possibly including narco-analysis and coordinated cross-state police operations

This case has evolved far beyond a tragic honeymoon murder. It now portrays a chilling story of premeditation, manipulation and digital deception—underscored by the revelation that Sonam intended to flee with someone entirely unexpected.
