Kathua, Dec 18 (GNS): A tragic fire incident in Kathua district claimed the lives of six family members, including four minors and a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), leaving four others injured.

The fatal fire broke out during the night in the residential house of Avtar Krishan, located in Ward Number 16 of Shiva Nagar, Kathua. The blaze resulted in a heart-wrenching loss of life that has shocked the local community.

Casualties and Identification

The deceased victims have been identified as:

  • Ganga Bhagat, 17, daughter of Bharat Bushan
  • Danish Bhagat, 15, her brother
  • Avatar Krishan
  • Barkha Raina, 25
  • Takash Raina, 3
  • Advik Raina, 4, son of Sandeep Kaul

Injured Survivors

Four individuals were injured in the incident and have been admitted to the district hospital:

  • Swarna, 61, wife of Avatar Krishan
  • Neetu Davi, 40, wife of Bharat Bushan
  • Arun Kumar, 15, son of S Chand from Ramban
  • Kewal Krishan, son of Mansa Ram from Shiva Nagar, Kathua

Preliminary Investigation

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Preliminary findings suggest a potential short circuit may have triggered the devastating blaze, though a comprehensive investigation is still underway.

All injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Kathua.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and the need for vigilance in preventing such tragic accidents.
