Poonch, Feb 4 (KNC): The Jammu and Kashmir Police have secured the conviction of an accused in a rape case registered at Police Station Mendhar, with the court awarding 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹50,000.

As per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, The judgment was pronounced by the Hon’ble Court at Poonch on February 3, 2026.

The case pertains to FIR No. 285/2022 under Section 376 IPC, involving repeated sexual assault on a woman. The accused, identified as Mohd Waseem S/o Mohd Yaseen, a resident of Mankote, Tehsil Mendhar, District Poonch, was found guilty following a thorough and evidence-based investigation conducted by the police.

Officials said the investigation was carried out with due diligence, sensitivity and strict adherence to legal procedures under the supervision of SDPO Mendhar, Sheezan Bhat, SHO Police Station Mendhar, Inspector Nayaz, and PSI Prince Jasrotia, Scientific methods including DNA profiling, timely collection of evidence and proper documentation played a crucial role in strengthening the case.

Police said the final chargesheet was prepared by PSI Naveet Anjum, while effective coordination with the prosecution ensured strong presentation before the court, leading to conviction.

The J&K Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and reaffirmed their commitment to fair, impartial and professional investigations to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.

It is important to mention, under supervision of SDPO Mendar Sheezan Bhat, Inspector Niyaz and PSI Prince Jasrotia, the investigations were swiftly carried.(KNC)
