Srinagar, Dec 30:
A delegation of the Joint Traders Association (JTA)—an amalgam of City Centre markets—met the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, to highlight long-pending civic, transport, and regulatory issues affecting the City Centre.
The delegation was led by JTA Chairman Farhan Kitab, who raised concerns regarding encroachment of footpaths, inadequate public washroom facilities, lack of evening transport, unregulated auto stands, and the need for regulated operation of e-rickshaws within the City Centre.
Serious safety concerns were also flagged over the absence of proper street lighting in Bund areas, including near Masjid Bilal and along Residency Road Bund, making these locations unsafe for pedestrians, shoppers, and visitors during evening and night hours.
Regarding shop tax, the Joint Traders Association requested the Divisional Commissioner to form a committee with JTA as a member to examine the issue and ensure a fair and transparent resolution.
The Divisional Commissioner gave a positive hearing to the issues raised and assured the delegation that all genuine concerns would be taken up with the concerned departments for necessary action.
The Joint Traders Association welcomed the assurance and expressed hope for early redressal in the interest of traders, commuters, and the general public.
