Srinagar/Delhi: Former Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner, Vice Chairman of Srinagar Development Authority (SDA), Managing Director of the State Financial Corporation and Director Estates, Mohd Aslam Laigroo passed away today morning at Manipal Hospital, Dwarka, New Delhi, following a cardiac arrest.
A distinguished bureaucrat, Mohd Aslam Laigroo served the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state in various key administrative capacities with dedication, integrity and professionalism, earning widespread respect across administrative circles.
An accomplished mountaineer and sportsman, Laigroo was part of a historic joint Kashmir–American expedition in 1971, which successfully summited Katsal (Tulian) Peak in Pahalgam. For his exceptional mountaineering skills, he was fondly known as the “Mountain Goat.” He was also a renowned skier and brought international laurels to the region by winning a medal in France.
His mortal remains will be brought from New Delhi late this afternoon. Nimaz-e-Janazah will be offered after Magrib prayers at his residence, Baghi Haider, Lane No. 1, Hyderpora Bypass. He will be laid to rest at Goripora graveyard near Jamia Masjid.
Mohd Aslam Laigroo’s demise is a profound loss to the administrative fraternity and the sporting community of Jammu and Kashmir.
