The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK) has made an urgent appeal to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, seeking immediate intervention to ensure the safety and evacuation of several students from Jammu & Kashmir currently stranded in Bangladesh amid escalating turmoil in the country.
The ongoing unrest in Bangladesh has severely affected various regions where Kashmiri students are pursuing their education, raising serious concerns about their safety and well-being among families and the business community in the Kashmir Valley.
Tariq Rashid Ghani, President of CCIK, in an official statement issued today, said: “We earnestly appeal to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, and Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha for their immediate intervention in this critical matter. Our students are facing an extremely precarious situation in Bangladesh, and their families are deeply anxious about their safety. The deteriorating law and order situation in various areas of Bangladesh where our students are studying demands urgent government action.”
The CCIK has emphasized the need for immediate assessment of the safety conditions of J&K students in Bangladesh, proper evacuation arrangements for students from affected areas, coordination with Indian diplomatic missions in Bangladesh for safe passage, and regular communication with families regarding the status of their children.
“These young students represent the future of our region, and ensuring their safety is of paramount importance. We are confident that under the leadership of our Hon’ble Prime Minister and the proactive guidance of the Lieutenant Governor, swift action will be taken to bring our children home safely,” Ghani added.
The Chamber has also urged the Ministry of External Affairs to establish an emergency helpline for families seeking information about their children studying in Bangladesh and to expedite all necessary measures for their safe return.
