Srinagar, Dec 21 (KNC): Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo on Sunday said administration is fully prepapred for any weather event ahead, saying that while snowfall is likely in higher reaches as per the Meteorological Department’s advisory, there is no immediate prediction of snowfall for Srinagar city, with rainfall being more likely in the plains at present.
He said the district administration, along with all line departments, has already put in place a comprehensive winter preparedness and snow-clearance plan to ensure uninterrupted essential services.
Speaking to media persons in Srinagar, DC Labroo, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, said, “As per the weather predictions and advisories issued by the Director Meteorological Department, snowfall is expected in the higher reaches, but for the plains, especially Srinagar city, there is no strong snowfall prediction as of now. Precipitation in the form of rain is more likely. You must have seen that there was light rainfall this morning. In the coming days or weeks, snowfall may occur, but currently rainfall is the main forecast.”
He said that all concerned departments are fully prepared to deal with any eventuality. “The District Administration Srinagar, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Traffic Police, District Police and especially our Mechanical Engineering Department are working in close coordination. We have already prepared a snow-clearance programme. All essential services including KPDCL, PHE and R&B are part of this coordinated plan. Machinery and manpower are already on the ground and fully ready,” he said.
DC Labroo assured that there would be no disruption to public life. “Whenever there is snowfall or heavy precipitation, we will ensure, through coordinated efforts of the District Administration and SMC, that people do not face any inconvenience in Srinagar city due to snow or rainfall,” he added.
Emphasising fire safety during the winter season, the Deputy Commissioner urged people to strictly follow safety guidelines. “I would like to make a special appeal regarding fire safety. During winters, we receive reports of fire incidents almost every day across the district. We have repeatedly issued advisories and published do’s and don’ts in newspapers, especially regarding the safe use of kangris, heating appliances and other devices,” he said.
He further added, “People must ensure proper and safe use of heating appliances and conduct a safety audit of electrical wiring in their homes to ensure that all safety protocols are in place. This is important not only to protect one’s own house but also the surrounding neighbourhood.”
DC Labroo appealed to the public to promptly report any fire-related incident. “In case of any fire incident, people should immediately inform the Fire and Emergency Services on the centralized helpline number so that timely action can be taken,” he said. (KNC)
